I was standing at an intersection waiting for
the light to change in the Fernwood section of
Victoria when I heard someone shout my name. When
I turned to look, it was Carolyn Mark in her ancient
rundown blue van and before I could react, she
blasted me in the face with a super soaker and
stepped on the gas, shrieking with laughter.

Judging
by some of the artists that released records this
year (and good records at that), it could be 1991,
not 2004. Jeez, let’s take a look: The Muffs,
Green Day, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, The
Descendents (ok,I know technically they were exclusively
using the name ALL back in ’91, but you know
what I mean), oh the list goes on.

Breaking
Laces |

Maybe
I’m categorizing, but you can usually pick the
New York band out of a line-up. So many bands, so many
Ramones or Strokes lookalikes. And maybe that’s
unfair. Breaking Laces, who hail from Brooklyn, seem
to break that stereotype. They’re not your typical
New Yorkers; they don’t sound like a creation
from the mean streets. And tough guys? Fuhgeddaboudit.
